The Galvanized Jacket was my main climbing shell for last season of ice climbing, and I was thoroughly impressed by it. Previous season of ice climbing I had always worn a thin soft shell jacket as my main shell, and while soft shells are nice for their flexibility they definitely aren’t that protective. And that's where the Galvanized jumps in as it offers the flexibility of a soft shell while still providing the protection of a hardshell.

Getting the Galvanized made me switch to using hardshells for ice climbing, and I don’t really see going back to soft shells. It’s a shame though to see them discontinue it, but because it was in production for so many years it is easy to find it online, and especially on worn wear!

I know the Dual Aspect is the replacement for it but I would probably still recommend the Galvanized over the Dual Aspect, mostly because the Galvanized has better mobility. And really the only downside with that jacket is its weight as it’s on the slightly heavier side.

I hope to spend more time in this jacket this season, but I’ve mainly transitioned over to the Storm 10, as I have a bit of a difficult time with the hood on the Galvanized and my Sirocco. But hopefully I’ll figure that out.
