I’m not gonna lie, I got this piece due to its rarity and color blocking, BUT since I got it it’s turned into a pretty important piece in my layering system.

It’s a great piece as it sits as in between the R1 and the Nano-Air for warmth. It features all of Patagonia’s older Nano-Air technology so it’s a little more robust, with maybe a slight decrease in water repellency. Also it’s slightly more bulky than the current Nano-Air.

So the difference between the Nano-Air Light and the Nano-Air comes down to how much insulation there is (and how breathable it is) The Light has 45g of insulation whereas the regular Nano-Air has 60g. And that difference is definitely noticeable when wearing the light, however the fabric on the light is less breathable so you get a little more heat retention through that.

I honestly haven’t used the Nano-Air Light much this season for ice climbing, and I’m actually hoping to use it more for early season rock climbing.

It’s also worth mentioning that Patagonia is releasing a new version of the Nano-Air Light, though in a hybrid version. I plan on getting this jacket, and I’ll make sure to compare how it performs against this piece.
