When I saw the announcement for this piece I was super excited and determined to get it, as it would complete my layering setup for this season.

From the end of the last season I knew that I wanted to refine my layering system, part of that was having better base layers, but another big part of it was finding an appropriate midlayer for any weather. And that led me down to looking at vests.

At first I had bought the Nano-Air Vest, but I found that it was restrictive in the shoulders for me and overall was too big of a fit. So I knew that I needed to find something that had stretch to it while still being warm enough. So when Black Diamond announced the Coefficient LT Hybrid Vest I thought it would be the perfect piece. It uses polartec fleece as it’s base, and more specifically its the same as Patagonia’s capilene thermal weight (R.5) This choice of fabric was great as it allows great breathability with exceptional warmth for its weight. And the addition of PrimaLoft silver in the chest makes it so you core stays warm.

This vest has been a great addition to my layering system as it allows for a low bulk option while still maintaining some warmth, but not enough to overheat, and that’s super important.
